How to Create a Business in Cameroon in 2025

Written by Growp Victor W

Starting a business in Cameroon can be a rewarding journey when you understand the legal requirements, market opportunities, and procedures. This 2025 guide breaks down the process step-by-step—from idea to registration—to help you get started on the right foot.

Why Start a Business in Cameroon in 2025?

Cameroon, often dubbed “Africa in Miniature,” offers diverse opportunities for entrepreneurs across various sectors including agriculture, tech, tourism, maritime, construction, and logistics. The business environment is evolving, and new reforms by the government aim to make business creation smoother and more transparent.

Legal Requirements for Starting a Business in Cameroon

Before setting up your business, it’s essential to understand the legal framework. In Cameroon, you can register as:

  • A Sole Proprietorship (Entreprise Individuelle)

  • A Private Limited Company (SARL)

  • A Public Limited Company (SA)

  • A Cooperative or Association

Each has its own structure, benefits, and requirements.

Step-by-Step Guide to Register Your Business in Cameroon

Let’s dive into the actual steps needed to start your business legally in 2025.

Step 1: Define Your Business Idea and Choose a Legal Structure

Clearly outline your business idea and choose a legal structure that fits your goals. If you’re a solo entrepreneur, Entreprise Individuelle might work. For partnerships, consider SARL.

Step 2: Draft Your Company Statutes

For SARL or SA, you’ll need to prepare and notarize your statutes (statuts de société). This document outlines your business name, capital, partners, purpose, and more.

Step 3: Register with the One-Stop-Shop (CFCE)

Visit the Centre de Formalités de Création des Entreprises (CFCE) to submit your application. At CFCE, you will:

  • Reserve your business name

  • Submit your statutes

  • Provide IDs and necessary documentation

  • Pay registration fees

You will receive:

  • RCCM (Registre de Commerce et du Crédit Mobilier)

  • Taxpayer number (NIU)

  • Business license (Carte de contribuable)

Step 4: Open a Business Bank Account

Open a bank account in the business name. Some banks require you to deposit the minimum capital for SARL (usually 100,000 FCFA or more depending on the structure).

Step 5: Register with CNPS (Social Security)

If you plan to hire employees, you must register with CNPS (Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale) to comply with labor laws.

Step 6: Start Operating Legally

Once registered and compliant, you can officially launch your business operations. Consider setting up a professional website, getting a company stamp, and promoting your business online and offline.

Bonus Tips for New Entrepreneurs in Cameroon

  • Work with a lawyer or notary to avoid legal pitfalls

  • Hire an accountant to handle tax declarations

  • Use digital platforms to market your services

  • Network with other entrepreneurs through local chambers or business associations

Final Thoughts

Creating a business in Cameroon in 2025 is achievable with the right information, planning, and resources. With strategic guidance and compliance, your entrepreneurial dreams can become reality.
